A Day in the Life at BIWS Orphanage
Published by Begum Inayat Welfare Society • 6 min read
Every morning at BIWS Orphanage in Model Town, Lahore begins with the soft glow of dawn. For our 91 orphan girls, a new day brings structure, learning, laughter, and love within the safe walls of our Girls Campus. Here is a glimpse into a typical day at our orphanage.
5:00 AM — Fajr Prayer & Morning Prep
The day starts early with Fajr prayer. The girls wake up, perform ablution, and offer their morning prayer together. This spiritual start grounds them and instills discipline from a young age. After prayer, they freshen up and help make their beds and tidy their dormitories.
6:30 AM — Breakfast Together
Breakfast is served in the dining hall — a nutritious meal that varies from day to day: parathas with yogurt, milk and cereals, eggs, and fresh fruit. The girls sit together, eat, chat, and prepare for the school day ahead. Mealtime is also a time for building social bonds and table manners.
8:00 AM — School Time
All our girls attend school at nearby institutions. They put on their uniforms, pack their bags, and leave for school where they study alongside other children from the community. Education is the cornerstone of our mission — every girl at BIWS is enrolled in formal schooling with additional tutoring support at the campus in the evenings.
2:00 PM — Return & Lunch
After school, the girls return to the campus for a hearty lunch. The menu is planned to provide balanced nutrition — dal, sabzi, rice, roti, and occasional treats like biryani or fruit chaat. Proper nutrition is essential for their physical and mental development.
3:00 PM — Rest & Homework
After lunch, the girls rest for a while, then gather in the study hall for homework and tutoring. Our teachers and volunteers help with assignments, clarify concepts, and ensure every girl keeps up with her studies. This dedicated time has helped many of our girls excel in their classes.
5:00 PM — Skills & Activities
Evenings are for enrichment. The girls rotate through skill-building activities: computer literacy classes in our IT lab, stitching and embroidery workshops, beautician training, and art and craft sessions. These skills empower them with confidence and future livelihood opportunities.
6:30 PM — Playtime & Recreation
Every child deserves to play. The girls enjoy free time in the courtyard — skipping rope, playing cricket or football, board games, and group activities. On weekends, we organize special activities like magic shows, movie nights, and seasonal celebrations.
8:00 PM — Dinner & Maghrib
The day winds down with Maghrib prayer followed by dinner. The girls share highlights of their day, discuss what they learned, and express gratitude. This family-style setting creates a sense of belonging and emotional security.
9:00 PM — Bedtime
After Isha prayer, the girls prepare for bed. The dormitories are safe, clean, and supervised by caring staff. As they drift off to sleep, they do so knowing they are loved, protected, and valued — the foundation every orphan child deserves.
